Learner Tien beat Jakub Mensik 6-3, 1-6, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the US Open fourth round. Mensik, the 17th seed, won the second and third sets and led early in the fourth before Tien broke him twice to take the set and force a decider. The third-round match at Louis Armstrong Stadium was briefly stopped when Mensik complained to the chair umpire about a spectator heckling him; security escorted the fan out after Mensik pointed them out and exchanged words with other fans. The match finished late into the night at around 1:35 a.m., and the victory sends Tien into the tournament last 16.
