Vincent Janssen nets Portland Timbers' first MLS hat trick, Timbers beat Minnesota 5-4

HISTORY ⚽️⚽️⚽️ AFTER 522 MLS GAMES - VINCENT JANSSEN IS THE FIRST TIMBER TO EVER SCORE A HATTRICK.

NGL I’m a little sad. What a hilarious, absurd streak. Congrats to Vincent Janssen on breaking the curse. #RCTID

56' VINCENT JANSSEN HAS DONE IT. HE COLLECTS A BALL FROM LASSITER WIDE OPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOX. AND THEN HE SCORES. IT'S HIS THIRD OF THE GAME. HE HAS FINALLY DONE IT. HE HAS SCORED THE FIRST EVER MLS HAT TRICK FOR THE PORTLAND TIMBERS. 4-3 #RCTID

The hat-trick drought is over. Janssen's 3 goals bring the Timbers 3 points, despite the defense's best effort to do the contrary. You will never see a game like this ever again. Unbelievable in two different ways on both ends of the pitch. #RCTID

Of course it would be the guy who up until tonight has played just 43 league minutes for the Timbers, in his first ever start for the Timbers, who finally breaks the curse and scores the first ever MLS hat trick for the club. #RCTID

Okay that was fun and also could we just have a TEENY bit more defense when we go up 3-0 #RCTID

Vincent Janssen is not the first @timbers.com player to score a hat trick on his home debut. Ron Futcher scored the last NASL Timbers hat trick on his home debut in what was then Civic Stadium.

“We always win 5–4!” 😂 #rctid (I don’t mind this madness at all)

Merritt Paulson must be so pissed right now that he has to pay out his first hat trick bonus ever… #rctid

Added laughs in the whole "No Hat Trick" saga for us is (was?) the fact that two of our past head coaches were the ones to score an MLS team's first hat trick! #RCTID

I always hoped that we’d be there for the first MLS hat trick #RCTID

what a night craziest part is the hat trick isn't even the best thing that happened. first, my daughter got to meet her favorite player! and i got to unexpectedly meet a ton of Ukrainian people, even someone from the city i grew up in. #RCTID

The Portland Timbers sold Kevin Kelsy for eight-figure and got...better? I wrote about Vincent Janssen making history at Providence Park, a new star emerging in the East + @backheeled.com has tons more from around MLS. Read ⤵️

It’s nice to see the Timbers first ever hat trick in MLS play can fuel some good old fashioned click baity banter #RCTID www.thesun.co.uk/sport/402887...
