New Zealand approves MDMA to treat severe PTSD
New Zealand drugs regulator approves use of MDMA to treat severe PTSD
I AM MOVING TO NEW ZEALAND
Ok I haven't talked much about this but using mdma in college was NECESSARY to who I am now. I had never felt connection to a whole room like that before, and it helped me understand myself as part of a community and shed the rabid individuality that isolates us and turns us against each other
It betrays my sheltered youth that I’ve never tried Molly. Dex and lisdex: sure. Am prescribed those. Levo: cheeky meds loan (it’s in adderall and I know Americans) Beta hydroxy methamphetamine: who hasn’t? The one you can get without a script. Also it just like, grows on bushes But no MDMA.
I mean cool I guess but also maybe we should all just be allowed autonomy over our own bodies regardless of whether we're suffering from whatever malady the higher-ups consider legitimate at any given time? Perhaps?
The first NZ approvals to prescribe MDMA as part of therapy for PTSD have been granted. At an estimated $15,000 per course of treatment, which largely goes to therapist time and facilities, this actually looks attractive to ACC, vs indefinitely funding other therapies. www.rnz.co.nz/news/health/...
The MAPS Phase 3 trial cited in RNZ's story is interesting reading. The dropout rate for the active arm was only 1.9% – much lower than the placebo group (15.7%) and *way* lower than is typical for conventional exposure therapy or CBT (about 50%). www.nature.com/articles/s41...
‘Each round of treatment was expected to cost about $15,000. A standard course would be three rounds’ = $45k
Have contact with a clinician also working with this in regard to terminal illness, and they say it seems like it's such an exceptional option for helping people come to terms with end of life.
i can do that shit myself, way cheaper
something i wonder about with this is, a lot of people with ptsd will be on medication that precludes the use of mdma. do they just miss out or do they do a managed tapering off? some ssris can be pretty brutal to come off
