Josh Alexander made an unexpected return to AEW on the September 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, attacking Steven Borden and locking TNT Champion Darby Allin in an Ankle Lock. The return came immediately after Allin retained the TNT Championship over Mark Davis, who tried to continue the assault after the match. Steven Borden rushed to the ring to save Allin, but Alexander charged in from behind to blindside Borden before applying the Ankle Lock to Allin. This marked Alexander's first AEW television appearance since March 2026, when a severe knee injury sidelined him. The post-match assault served as Alexander's first in-ring statement since his injury and puts him squarely into AEW television storylines again.
