Dyson launches £420 toothbrush with live‑mouth camera

Dyson unveiled a £420 “complete dental system” electric toothbrush at an event in Paris, featuring a built-in 100k pixel macro lens camera that streams live footage to the MyDyson app. The brush combines brushing, an on-stem jet that sprays mouth rinse when the camera detects gaps between teeth, and a brush head claimed to remove up to 72% more plaque than market-leading electric toothbrushes. James Dyson said the device took six years and 661 engineers to develop and incorporates machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, and an anti-gravity mouthwash tank. Dyson will sell a non-foaming toothpaste and mouth rinse to avoid obscuring the camera lens, each priced at £8.50. The company said its researchers developed a “proxy plaque” for testing and that the system targets areas people commonly miss, such as gaps between teeth. Eddie Crouch, chair of the British Dental Association, said patients should not assume high-priced gadgets replace a proper brushing routine. Dyson has moved its corporate base to Singapore in 2019, and the toothbrush enters an already crowded market of app-connected smart brushes.
