Chelsea sign Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa

Chelsea have signed Argentina World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa on a three-year contract, the club announced. Reports put the transfer fee at about £7.5m. Martínez, who won the Golden Glove at the 2022 World Cup, arrives at Stamford Bridge to provide an experienced, vocal presence between the posts and to address Chelsea’s recent goalkeeping concerns. Chelsea say Martínez will integrate into training immediately and the club will assess his match fitness before naming a debut. Aston Villa have confirmed the move and must now pursue replacement plans before the transfer window closes.

Emi Martinez has completed his move to Chelsea from #AVFC for £7.5m. The 33yo spent six years at Villa, playing 255 games, with his last coming in the Europa League final. His form at club level gave him the platform to enjoy great success with Argentina.
