Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields raises $20M, closes with major guests
Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields concert raising $20m for abortion care nonprofits (among others) while putting on an absolute banger of a show should be getting more play than it is in the millennial retirement home that is Bluesky
She brought out Stevie Knicks to do “Landslide”. She had Sarah McLachlan doing “Building a Mystery”. Like
I had not seen any news about it but it seems both big and good news. www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-ne...
Holding my sleeping daughter in my arms while Sarah McLachlan performed Angel, dedicated to Dolly Parton, I was SOBBING. I think I speak for most millennials when I say that getting stuck in the parking lot afterwards had us out way past our collective bedtimes. We need a few days to recover!
NPR Music will have a report up shortly!
I have seen several post on Bluesky about this great effort by Olivia Rodrigo. I don’t get it. What can’t people just post good things without adding insults at the end?
Excuse me, this is also an x-ennial retirement home for some of us? But yes, very good points!
That’s awesome but it seems understandable that the website for 38 year olds isn’t keeping abreast of Olivia Rodrigo news
Get in y'all, we're building a matriarchy. www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-ne...
additionally, the new Olivia Rodrigo album is one of the best pop albums this decade and you should listen to it
not me trying to explain how awesome this is and bursting into tears
Boomer erasure! :) I've been watching DCF video. Performances are powerful. Artists seem ecstatic to be there. They're drinking up the woman/nb energy and solidarity with a straw. What amazed me–Impresario Rodrigo is totally relaxed. She intros acts, performs duets and solo. No nerves. Only joy. 🥰
I have so much respect and admiration for Olivia. She's doing all this at TWENTY THREE and her album is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wrong, Denver is the millennial retirement home of America
millennials, ha ex-X Xers more like
Spent a not insignificant portion of the day watching clips on Insta. One of many highlights: Alanis singing “it’s like meeting the man of my dreams / and then meeting his beautiful HUSBAND.” Also, I confess, Sarah M. singing “Building a Mystery” (because Lilith, you get it. I’m old)
Apparently Karen O couldn’t make it but was surprise replaced with Alanis! Morissette!!
At Daisy Chain Fields tonight, Olivia Rodrigo brought out Sarah McLachlan for “Building A Mystery” and “Angel,” dedicated to Dolly Parton. The pop star's festival, which was inspired by McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, raised $10M for women's rights nonprofits, an amount Melinda French Gates is doubling.
DollyPardon and Melinda Gates both kind and generous human beings who happen to be women.
Women doing things for women because we are all we've got left to count on right now. We are all-powerful and unstoppable. No oppressive government will ever stop us.
USA didn't make Dolly Parton a good person, she made the USA a better place to live in.
Gotta love women with talent and compassion! 🔥🎉💞
Dolly’s up there all “you couldn’t sing one of my songs?” 😄
What a wonderful tribute! And thank you Melinda Gates
What an amazing inspiration for women, by women, with women! $20MM for women's causes! #SheShed #Blues
I wonder why the media have taken against a brave woman who stands up for rights and was there for the people of Manchester when needed. Could it just possibly be a fear of strong minded women?
Y’all remember when this played on Buffy The Vampire Slayer? MY HEART.
Women will save the world.
Our current MAGA nightmare is being funded by the Techbro oligarchy- and the resistance funded by the wives who divorced them.
The problem here is that Building A Mystery will always be the song that was playing when I saw the girl I had a crush on in high school make out with another guy at the fall play cast party. You can't get over that.
I would love for this festival to kick off some real coordinated organizing for a constitutional amendment enshrining abortion rights, à la the Green Wave in Mexico. Hell, I’d even take full ratification of the ERA.
The festival, which was inspired by McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, raised $10M for women's rights nonprofits, an amount Melinda French Gates is doubling‼️ 👏👏👏
I'm not crying, you're...oh who am I kidding, of course I'm crying
Olivia Rodrigo raised $20 million for women's well-being with a benefit show featuring a women-led lineup. Her show raised $10 million and Melinda French Gates pledged another $10 million. Rodrigo said the festival's artists and activists give her hope despite the “regression of women's rights."
She sang In The Arms of the Angels with Sarah McLachlan and Steven Nicks, for Dolly.
So Gen Z Lilith Fair? I dig it.
Taking back america will require grass roots.
The beautiful women are the women who support other women.
Women have to wake up massively and fight for their human rights. All around the world. And don’t wait with this!
Vote for Women. Hire Women. Believe Women.
Olivia Rodrigo is 23 years old and she’s doing more to vocally (and monetarily) support abortion rights and make progressive political engagement cool among her demographic than a lot of elected officials triple her age. Adore her!
Also she keeps making absolute bangers. Bad Idea, Right? and Vampire get me singing in my car every time.
As a university professor teaching young people her age, give or take bit: the kids are alright. They are sharp, attentive, and deeply moral. Their elders have failed them but that is not their fault.
she's so fucking cool. she's doing so much and seems really grounded in the tradition of radical women musicians, and proud to be a part of it.
I didn't know about Olivia until this year, she seems like a really sweet girl. I love how vocal she is about social justice, being a progressive, we need more artists like her.
She caught me by surprise but she’s absolutely fantastic. I’m currently obsessed with “What’s Wrong W/Me” w/Robert Smith who I also love. And Vampire is one of my favorite songs.
My son introduced me to her music. I had no idea she was only 23!!
I agree that people are not giving the Kathleen Hanna to Olivia Rodrigo pipeline enough attention
This is great for me because I’ve been making my students watch shaky, camcorder 90s clips of Bikini Kill performances for years and now I have an in they will actually register
Not enough faves giving flowers to faves out there, we need more of it.
To the girls who sing rock and roll songs!
She’s such an inspiring performer.
Hearing Olivia Rodrigo's first two albums made me wonder if Taylor Swift or somebody had sent her a copy of Exile in Guyville with a note to the effect of "You should really hear this." But even if that were true, I'd still bet Rodrigo discovered Bikini Kill on her own. ♀️🎸🤘
I can see it, the contours of Feminism 3: Revengeance Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
I am here for Rodrigo & the riot grrrls!
Advocacy will have to be hyper-partisan; amazing that Rodrigo is opening up space for Hanna’s rhetoric.
from last night: Olivia Rodrigo and Stevie Nicks, "Landslide," from Rodrigo's inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival which raised $20M for groups including Planned Parenthood, National Network of Abortion Funds, Girls Inc., the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and Indigenous Women Rising.
Slight correction, the concert raised $10M and Melinda French Gates matched it!
It's a disgrace that funding for those groups was cut in the first place.
Also in German news. Wonderful!
I’ve really been enjoying the Olivia Rodrigo singles I’ve heard. Seems like I don’t have to worry about indulging! Good on her for her very public activism.
Very glad this was successful - there was a lot of worry about facilities, the weather, etc.
What a beautiful, lovely and special performance by these 2 powerhouses!! I'm awed by that !
There’s never a *good* time to listen to Landslide, is there, but it’s often the right time
Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
well ok my word, this both gave me chills and has me grinning like a fool ❤️🫶💕
a) this is marvelous b) but really they should have done "Silver Springs" because they are the two great poets of female vengeance
Olivia is good people, in addition to being a stellar performer.
It's not on the youth to save us, but there's still hope out there. Right on, Olivia Rodrigo.
💕 Stevie Nicks, would love to see some younger artists step up with new music to meet the moments we are living in now There are so many to pick from
I’m not going to festivals these days (but I am le tired), but the FOMO I had for this one…oof.
If there *is* such a thing as a perfect song, Landslide is one of them.
20 Million for these causes? I'm a fan!
I think it's worth pointing out that Olivia Rodrigo is 23, has a fan base that in part skews as young as middle school and she has been vocal and consistent in her support of abortion access.
Also, vampire is a really good song
In contrast to the billionaire she is standing next to, who did not vocally support (or directly fund) abortion access until post-Dobbs, in June 2022. For folks unaware of what her & the Gates Foundation’s public position on abortion was prior to 2022, here is a link wng.org/sift/melinda...
Her latest album is an absolute banger too
You can’t undersell the significance of a very recent Disney star doing this. She was a lead on one of their shows from 2016-2022. The reach of the global youth audience on any Disney show is HUGE. Then she became a top-charting vocalist touring worldwide. She’s your favorite teen’s favorite artist.
Unrelated but I saw five different Olivia Rodrigo Lego sets today???
Planned Parenthood will prob get the big headline but it is very cool that Olivia Rodrigo is support Black Mamas Matter abcnews.com/amp/Entertai...
I first learned about Olivia Rodrigo when she gave out Plan B at her concerts a few years ago. She's the real deal. She's not just doing girlboss feminism, she's truly trying to help women and girls.
This was huge. “Ahead of Saturday's festival … Rodrigo announced the show had already raised enough to make a $10 million donation to 10 nonprofit partners including Planned Parenthood, National Women's Law Center and Black Mamas Matter Alliance.” Malinda French Gates donated another $10 million.
I always record SNL and fast forward through it the next day, usually watching only the cold open and weekend update, but when Olivia Rodrigo was on in 2021, I stopped and watched her, and was blown away. I’m thrilled that she’s as good a person as she is an artist. youtu.be/jB6zVBiVJe0?...
In a world of Trumps, be like Dolly and Olivia.
I fear we have no choice but to stan this child
Yes. Black Mamas Matter National Domestic Workers Alliance John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health Olivia could’ve just donated to a Planned Parenthood (as most like her would), but sharing resources w/ Black and women of color led/centered groups indicates thoughtful intention
somehow her politics are even better than her music
Olivia Rodrigo is who we thought Taylor Swift was going to be.
Wait...did anybody think a child of white upper middle class wall street parents in Tennessee would be anything but you'd expect from white upper middle class wall street parents in Tennessee?
Nobody paying any actual attention ever thought Taylor Swift was going to be that
Taylor Swift has donated over 100 million to charity, from Dolly Parton's Books for Kids, to paying for surgeries of accident victims. Why do people always have to attack one, to raise the other?? BOTH can equally be amazing, just like Hanna.
Why does one woman doing a powerful thing mean another one has to be brought up to be put down?
Why are we turning a festival celebrating women as an opportunity to pit two women against each other?
I had no expectations of Taylor Swift
Remember, there can only ever be one good famous woman at a time 🙃
Taylor Swift had the makings of an artist who used her megaphone to advocate for worthwhile causes during Trump I She endorsed candidates, encouraged fans to contact elected officials, and condemned the president's reactions to George Floyd And then... poof...
I ain't a Taylor hater but Olivia is a way better songwriter than Swift was at 23 years old.
Olivia Rodrigo's festival is uniting women and girls behind nonprofits promoting their well-being apnews.com/article/oliv...
