Bird of the Day, theme 'Bestofthemonth'
A whooping crane called out to two sandhill crane friends. They can often be seen together. The size difference between the birds is clearly visible when they are together. For the #birdoftheday theme of #bestofthemonth #birds #cranes #whoopingcrane #protectnature #eck #sandhillcrane
Such a cool 😎 shot Amy. Shows the difference perfectly.
They’re so beautiful! I hope to see one in person one day. 🤞🏼
Amy, you are so blessed to see this trio, with a whooper! I’ve been donating to International Crane Foundation for years because I love cranes. But to see cranes, I have to go elsewhere- we get an occasional sandhill flyover during migration, but that’s it. Thanks for posting this great image. 😊
Your cranes are so beautiful Amy💛
Beautiful, I have not had the opportunity to see any crane in the wild , hopefully soon, great picture 👏🏻👏🏻
Seems like the gang’s all here. This is such a delightful photo. 😍👌🏼
Rob has said today's #BirdOfTheDay theme “ is #BestOfTheMonth, so any bird captures you admire the most out of your August 2026 Collection.” I’m going with this Willow Warbler taken a few days ago. #birds #photography #ECK
Very nice, Alan! Was this before it gave you the look?
So good, Alan 🥰 Brilliant shot as always 👏👏🫶
It's certainly a winner, Alan but choosing one from your collection must be very difficult. So many really excellent captures every day of the month.
A great pic again, Alan !
So sharp and so nice Alan.
So beautiful, Alan. Wonderful shot. 💚 Just catching up with all the pics as have been out of it for a few days. Hope all's well with you.
🪶 Rob has chosen #BestOfTheMonth as #BirdOfTheDay; your most admired captures of August 2026. I had a quiet month with a few moments, meeting this White Tailed Eagle 2 days in a row in two locations was definitely the highlight. #birdphotography #ECK #birds #photography #birdsofbluesky #nature
Brilliant shots AB. Have never seen one in real life, so lucky. 🍀
What a stunning sight. More than makes up for a quiet month.
Great photos! I love the tail in the first one.
Oof, that’s a highlight and a half. Great stuff.
Blimey - that is impressive. Fantastic images 👏
Magnificent bird, and well photographed. 👍🏼
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestoftheMonth. I've only photographed birds once this month so this is it. This osprey rode a heavy breeze right over where I stood. Like almost on purpose so I could make its portrait. #photography #wildlife #ECK #birds #birdsinflight #Birdsky #birders #NikonZ8
Good morning, Michael! Beautiful picture! As I type this I hear one hidden in the trees. I love seeing them here. Soon they will migrate ☹️ Have a lovely day!
What a fantastic shot. I’m waiting for the day one flies over me. We’re on the twice yearly flight path. It might happen.
Nice photo—who's watching whom here?
The Australian Bush Turkey is not a turkey! Early European settlers named them that because physically they looked similar to the American one. 🇦🇺🇺🇸🦃 They use their feet to build huge composts 🪺 to incubate their eggs. 👣 #Birds #BirdPhotography #BirdOfTheDay #Nature #NaturePhotography #Wildlife
They’re magnificent birds. Sadly, they’re also (unfairly) much maligned. Nice portrait Tara! 😊
Great Darryl Jones interview came to mind (www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...) as well as the current turkey starting a mound on the edge of our front yard...
I love 'em, although I do strongly suspect they have the smallest brain compared to body size of any bird. That's a lovely shot, especially the lighting, Tara.
They are also the only bird that can fly within hours of hatching. I guess because Mum and Dad abandon the nest because the warmth of the compost in the mound incubates the eggs, so the chicks are defenceless. 🐣
Yet another Aussie bird that's been misleadingly named by based on their perceived similarity to a European bird species…
Great portrait image Tara... that is an amazing bird! 🫶
