Edmundo Sosa hit a two-out, pinch-hit grand slam to left-center in the top of the ninth, erasing a 3-1 deficit and giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The homer was Sosa’s first career grand slam and came two batters after Angels right fielder Wade Meckler robbed Bryson Stott of a would-be go-ahead three-run homer. The Phillies had managed eight singles before Sosa’s swing. Rookie Andrew Painter allowed three first-inning runs on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch but settled down to work six innings, and Jose Alvarado and Alex McFarlane followed with scoreless relief. Jonathan Bowlan closed the bottom of the ninth for the save; the team did not immediately explain why closer Jhoan Duran was unavailable. The slam capped a big week for Sosa, who had a three-run double in Philadelphia’s come-from-behind win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

Don't know which comeback was more improbable, this one or the Cards one. I'm sure the numbers say the Cards, but Meckler making that catch on the Stott ball and then the GS by Edmundo Israel Sosa, I don't know.

I can’t remember a wilder rollercoaster ride. They essentially had to win the game twice and the irony of the Stott robbery is that the Phillies got an extra run out of it!

It would’ve been really easy to have been totally deflated after the home run robbery, but they persevered. On the other hand, while the runs were scored with 2 outs, it was only two batters, compared to the Cards comeback with, what, 10 times down to the last strike?
