The BBC confirmed Top Gear will return to TV, four years after the show was rested when co-host Andrew Flintoff was seriously injured in a 2022 filming crash. Flintoff suffered facial and rib injuries when his open-topped three-wheeled Morgan Super 3 overturned on the programme's test track; he told a Disney+ documentary he was dragged face-down underneath the car for about 50 metres. BBC director of entertainment Ed Havard announced the comeback at the Edinburgh TV Festival and said "we can confirm that Top Gear is coming back." The hosting line-up has not been finalised; The Sun reported comedian Jimmy Carr has held talks to join and former rugby player Joe Marler has been named as another potential presenter. BBC Studios will make the new series and did not comment further; the corporation apologised and paid compensation to Flintoff after the crash. Racing driver Paul Rees, who was in the car with Flintoff, has sued BBC Studios for up to £150,000 for personal injury, a claim BBC Studios says it disputes and is defending.
