Liverpool reach agreement in principle to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign forward Bradley Barcola in a package worth around £120 million (€140 million), with more than £100 million guaranteed. Negotiations are being handled by sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon, and important final details were being ironed out on Thursday morning. Nothing has been signed yet and the transfer is not complete, but The Athletic reported Barcola is committed to joining Liverpool. The 23-year-old, who has two years left on his PSG contract, made clear he does not wish to extend and was left out of PSG’s matchday squad for the 2-2 draw with Rennes. Barcola played predominantly from the left wing, made 49 appearances in 2025-26 with 13 goals and seven assists, and has 39 goals and 37 assists in 152 senior appearances. He featured in all eight of France’s World Cup matches this summer, scoring three goals. The move emerged after Liverpool identified Barcola as their primary target to replace Mohamed Salah, and the potential signing could have knock-on effects for Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Barcola is the best attacking signing Liverpool could have made all summer. Depth and ball progression remain issues for me. Others want a combative midfielder and I understand why. But Barcola is what Liverpool needed more than anything else. And it is great news it is done.

It's the lack of cover for Isak that's worrying me the most. He can't play 90 minutes in every league & European match until Ekitike is back and God forbid he gets injured again, LFC would be in deep trouble.

Next it's a) about getting the best out of him, Wirtz and Isak and the best way this happens is the three playing closely together; b) that they can get on the ball (piano players), and c) that they can each be managed actively rather than reactively.

I wonder if Bradley Barcola will be the right winger Liverpool need. Spent almost all of his time at PSG on the left wing, but made his name in Ligue 1 playing across the front line. 11 of his last 19 starts for Lyon were on the right wing, where he averaged 0.74 goals and assists per 90. Not bad.
