Dolly Parton, Country Music Superstar, Dies at 80
Tonight, the Empire State Building lights will sparkle pink at 9:25 to honor Dolly Parton. A global icon, her seven-decade career touched generations. She leaves a legacy through her Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, providing millions of books to children.
Imagine how this world would look if political leaders made it their mission to leave the world a better place and to reach out and help those most in need, which, in other words, is to live a life like Dolly Parton . Not one bad word will be said about her life . What a legacy
😢💔 was never a massive fan of her music, as i was a metalhead, but she was a special lady and wildly talented and loved worldwide. She will be missed
This has hit me harder than I expected, I think because we are currently living in a world in which the worst people have enormous power, and we're losing the arts to AI, so losing Dolly hurts even more.

Made me cry again. 😢💖
Dolly Parton on supporting the LGBTQ+ community (2016): “I do not believe we should criticize and judge other people. If you’re the fine Christian you think you are, why are you judging people? I just think we should be more loving, more caring. We are who we are. If you’re gay, you’re gay. If you
Honoring a true Legend. R I P Dolly Parton
Beautiful 🩷 the whole world loves Dolly Parton, may she rest in peace.
In honoring the life of #DollyParton, may the legacy of her genuine love for all be remembered. #BlueCrew

Breaking News: Dolly Parton, the country singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur known for her outsize persona and prodigious vision and talent that placed her in a class by herself, has died at 80. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/25/a...
May she rest in peace, good people will live forever in memories of the people they helped, the people they have made smile, and the people they have touched!
The wrong 80 year old got taken!😞
There's a very real argument to be made that Dolly Parton is the greatest American.
Great singer, great performer, great person. RIP
Oh no. I’m so sorry to see this. What a fantastic person she was.
Her good energy was holding back the apocalypse probably. RIP Dolly. 💅 🪕I'm headed to my bunker.
Dolly Parton could've hoarded a fortune like every other billionaire. Instead, she gave it back, funding hospitals, paying for her employees' college, and giving kids the power of reading while politicians failed to fund their schools. Imagine what we could build if power like that actually cared. 💛
Banderas a media asta en las casas de uñas.
Ja va fer d’àngel a una peli, se sap el paper ❤️
Dolly was truly one of a kind, as was her music. Her Imagination Library has put more than 300 million books into the hands of children around the world, including right here in Southwest Ohio. Rest in peace, Dolly🙏🏻💙
You know I remember when Fred Rogers passed away and I felt the earth was a little darker because he was no longer a part of it. I feel the same way here. Dolly was a wonderful example to us all about how to treat people, especially children and the marginalized…
Nope. Uh-uh. Nice try! La la la I can’t hear you!!!!!!
She donated books to children so they could experience the joy of reading. I will remember her.
Damn yall. RIP to a legend
Dolly Parton taught me it was ok to be universally beloved
One of the more obscure facts I remember about Dolly Parton is this: just like Star Trek would not exist without Lucille Ball, Buffy would not exist without Dolly Parton. She was a silent producer of the movie and show. That's why Buffy Summers has the same birthday as Dolly: January 19.
Dolly Parton has put out so much good into the world that it's hard to keep track of it all. This is my little fact that I have squirreled away to remember her by!
So you’re saying… there’s some kind of connection between Buffy… and Dolly…??
Dolly goes straight to the head of my list of People Who Should Have Outlived Donald Trump. There are tens of millions of names on this list, but right now she's on top.
💖 We could really use Buffy now to deal with the Hellmouth that is DC.
There is a star in the sky tonight, no doubt
I never knew that. On this sad day I am learning a lot about someone I always respected, and am grateful for being on the same timeline as her.
we are going to find out she invented cheese and it will feel right
I forgot about this!! Moderna Vaccine AND Buffy???
Fucking hell, I didn’t know this at all!
I knew most of this but I somehow didn’t know about the birthday!
I knew rhe producer part. I did NOT know the birthday part. Dang dang.
This means I share my birthday with Dolly Parton and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Indeed Buffy was 'born' exactly ten years after me. So, that's a fun fact.
RIP Dolly Parton I had no idea she was connected to Buffy! That’s just one more reason to love her!
Dolly was just the coolest.
I'd say the game should be Six Degrees of Dolly Parton but honestly it would only take three tops
that means Dolly also shares a birthday with Edgar Allan Poe.
Here are a series of essays I wrote about Dolly tied to albums at the beginning, middle and end of her vast, prolific career, if you're looking for a little themed reading. www.dontrocktheinbox.com/on-dolly-par...
they were all originally written for vinyl me please which no longer has words on the internet so figured they should live somewhere :)
For the record, Natalie is like one of maybe five writers I care to read on Dolly. Highly suggest you partake.
Just what I was looking for. I know the canonical albums, but was looking for what the other great albums were.
natalie was born to write about this. i would say she’s the leader in the clubhouse, but ain’t nobody else in there they still out on like hole 4 🫡
Grab your headphones because this is not only well worth your reading time, the albums are right here too so you can listen as you go. An exceptional remembrance with treats for you from start to finish.
This is the best thing I've read about Dolly today. Don't Rock the Inbox is one of the few subscriptions I have that I never complain about, and don't question the cost.
Mannnnn I thought this was Karrueche at first scroll… Dolly was a generational baddie.
I found out from my Orff II group text, before I dismissed 2nd grade, but glad to see the first words on here I saw today were from Natalie. An unfathomable loss today, indeed.
one thing i learned from dolly parton, who wrote jolene and i will always love you in the same day, is that i could never do that
rip queen, we’ll keep reading books and stuff in your absence
I sent 2 emails today
but she would believe you could
she was in the *zone* that day
It's a lot easier now that you can just look up the words
Seems like a day her heart was breaking
"lol i don't understand celebrity worship they're just people" You rube. You simple child of the land. Dolly Parton wasn't just a celebrity. She did more material good in her life, with her own money, than anyone we literally elect to serve us.
Yeah man I get it you don't get attached to people you don't know personally. How's it feel to have less empathy than an actual child?
I think the rare occasion a person with money and a platform uses it to help a lot of ppl and stand their ground on good principles is actually worthy of some recognition…..
She’s Aunt Dolly in our house and has helped to make sure her nieces and nephews in my home have new books to read. Yes I’m gonna grieve someone who found it really important that my kids read.
"they're just people" sure, everybody is "just people" but "people" do "actions"
As someone who is usually like "cool, that's a stranger I don't know" when a celebrity dies. Nah. That's Dolly. She walked the walk.
Could be wrong, but I always thought the caution against "celebrity worship" was referring to people who are absolutely *obsessed* with a celebrity, to the point where they actually think they can do no wrong even when it turns out they did something really bad.
Also, there's an important distinction to be made between worshiping people because they're rich and famous, and APPRECIATING people for what they DO. Like, I don't give a crap how rich people are. In fact, wealth often highlights FLAWS. To be wealthy AND kind is rare.
It's nice to think about a nice lady
Trump outliving Dolly Parton proves that God does not exist – or at least that God is taking a long nap.
I had the pleasure of watching her perform live and it was magical. 💖 This is such sad news.
Imagine how this world would loook if political leaders made it their mission to leave the world a better place and to reach out and help those most in need, which, in other words, is to live a life like Dolly Parton . Not one bad word will be said about her life . What a legacy
That’s exactly where my mind went!
Elsewhere on this app: Be a Dolly not a Donald.
That's what I'm been saying. We lost Prince and David Bowie in the same year, and Henry Kissinger was still alive. That was all the proof I needed that we didn't have a just and merciful God.
The expression is: only the good die young. Hopeful people with a good heart will always seem to be taken too soon. Trump, however, is well past his expiration date.
ICYMI when it came out in 2019, Dolly Parton's America remains the definitive view of her wonderful life, creativity, and cultural significance. And one of the best podcast series ever. www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/dol...
God decided to save Dolly from having to suffer through any more Donald F Trump. The universal outpouring of love for Dolly has to be killing him. So good on Dolly for that.
I forget which CEO left a business meeting with Dolly Parton shaken. “How does anyone say no to her?”
I know, or used to know, an attorney who worked on a land deal regarding Dollywood, and she breezed into a meeting with donuts, gave everyone a hug, and said something like, “Let’s get this done, guys!” and breezed out. His precise reaction was the CEO quote. He also said she smelled great.
She wrote “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” on the same day, sir
I have to imagine it was akin to the Senator after Fred Rogers spoke to them in '69.
She would have been great at politics, apart from the fact she was so nice!
I’m sure many a Pepsi CEO were left shaken after talking to Miss Crawford, sir.
Never forget... Dolly Parton was one of the people who gave us the Moderna COVID vaccine.
And as a tribute to Dolly, everybody get a dose of Moderna this fall!
Moderna's always been my preference as it has a stronger immune response..for me anyway. Dolly Parton was a great human, not only her music, but her science advocacy, her LGBTQ 2S+ support, her animal rescues..that's all I know about. She an example of having wealth, yet giving generously to others.
She gave so much. So beloved. 💖
We will always love and appreciate Dolly. What a wonderful human.
Dolly Parton was a GIVER! A philanthropist & champion of many outstanding causes. She donated $1 million toward the development of the Covid vaccine & encouraged people to get the shot! She started an Imagination Library donating books for babies, newborn to age 5, to name a few! #RIPDolly #Pinks
My car broke down today at the post office. I was waiting for the tow truck. My son told me Dolly had passed away. I burst into tears in the parking lot. I mean sobbing. Bad people like Trump are thriving while people like Dolly die? It just breaks my heart. 💔 She was beautiful inside & out! ☮️😭
“If you see someone without a smile today, give 'em yours." Dolly Parton 💔
The best of us. 💔
It is not a coincidence nor a surprise the a few months ago the former East Tennessee Children's Hospital was named the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital. I remember speaking w a colleague there 1 or 2 days after it was announced. She was so proud. The team there was proud. RIP Dolly Parton.
