Washington Post ordered to rehire Karen Attiah

journalismAug 24, 2026157,159

A private arbitrator has ordered The Washington Post to reinstate opinion columnist Karen Attiah and to pay her back pay after the paper fired her in September for social media posts she made following the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The arbitrator wrote that The Post "did not have good and sufficient cause" to terminate Attiah and that the paper "violated" its labor agreement by firing her. Attiah has announced she won her case and that the paper must reinstate her immediately. The ruling reverses the Post's September decision to label the posts grounds for "gross misconduct" and requires the paper to restore Attiah under the terms of its union contract.

BREAKING: After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back. And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post. They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/b...
