Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's bond-market move fails to calm yields
Scott Bessent said we don't need more jobs though. Just learn to code and buy crypto.
There might be some hard times ahead for us but you folks are screwed .
Carney is taking this and running with it. I would be proud to be a Canadian right now. But we are ashamed and horrified. Let’s come together folks. This is not who we are.
Estimates are up to 200 000 job losses from Canada's retaliatory tariffs. Perfect timing for the midterms.
Carney is a blessing for Canada. The right man at the right time. I really admire him for having the balls and the vision to stand up to Trump. The world would be a much better place if more G7 countries (+EU) had the courage to do the same.
This is what it's like to have a competent, thoughtful and articulate leader. So proud of PM Carney.

Oh, well if Bessent says so... It's absolutely a Lie.
This is a hard bitter pill to swallow, it’s called the truth. Republicans have failed the American people, except for the rich! I’m proud of Canada! We the people need to come through and support Carney, by voting democrat, every Democrat house, senate, governor! Sounds bad, that is how bad we are!!💙
Folks think destroying relationships with our allies can be repaired with one admin change....
Republicans are freaking out over the midterms but refuse to stop any of the insanity coming out of the White House.
The stupidity of putting Canada in a place where it needs to diversify its trading relationships and move away from the US is beyond words.
Pay very close attention to what’s happening in the bond market. Trump was asked what he’ll do after Treasury yields rose again. He said the US could use the military. “The ultimate intervention is our military. And if we have to use that, we will.” Everyone eventually answers to the bond market.
How the hell does Trump expect to use the military to intervene in the bond market?
Who exactly is he planning on attacking now?
What if he means that foreign countries selling US bonds means he will go to war against them? :D
Use our military on whom? Top Foreign Holders of U.S. Treasury Debt Japan: $1.14 trillion UK: $949 billion China (Mainland): $659 billion Belgium: $472 billion Cayman Islands: $471 billion Luxembourg: $436 billion Canada: $436 billion Some other nation is responsible for DT's jacked up economy?
I think he believes it's the bomb Market.
The Peace President always resorts to war for any problem. Just like the Fertility President cuts IVF funding and the Drain The Swamp President robs us blind. War is Peace.
If you think Trump's war-of-choice on Iran was a stupid, self-destructive move that hurt the US economy, just wait till Trump starts bombing Wall Street to bring down interest rates. This is an actual exchange between a report and Trump on August 21, 2026.
It's been long since that was figured out - Here are two posts by late Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. (NJ) from late 2023 through 2024. He 🚨 alerted us what he figured out. At around the same time, the CEO of #HeritageFoundation started talking about #Dismantling🇺🇸Democracy, 🇺🇸system.
Annual cost of Iran war 37.5 billion against a defense budget of 840+ billion, works out to 4 to 5% of the total defense budget. I've penciled out $700 of my income tax goes to defense, so around 4% of that is around $40 annually to stand against Iran, the last super-power of jihad.
Grandpa had his mind focused on Natalie again...and again...and again.
It's been a while since he dropped a MOAB.
I would not be surprised if The Trump Family Criminal Syndicate is heavily invested in BRICS.
Does he mean he'll bomb countries who hold US bonds, like Japan ($1.2 trillion)?
Reporter to Trump on the bond market: The yields have come back up since then. Have you talked to Bessent about another type of intervention.? Trump: The ultimate intervention is our military. And if we have to use that, we will.
What does this even mean?
Sending the Marines into JP Morgan and Bank of America to improve the bond market…
this mfer going to try and attack japan?
There are no un-compromised adults running this government.🤬
LOL...yup, I'll direct Petey Kegsbreath to shoot a big hole in that woke lib-dem yield curve
Dang. He's counting on missiles settling down the bond market?
I just love having a President whose brain is so moldy he (1) didn't know his Treasury Secretary intervened to prop up government debt with different government debt and (2) tried to fake awareness by rambling about using the military to force people at gunpoint to buy government bonds.
Dan Quayle misspelled Potato and couldn’t run for president
Can someone please explain in plain English why soaring bond yields are a problem? I’m sensing imminent doom but don’t know why I’m sensing it.
The strategy for Bessent has been to issue short-term bonds with high interest, with the plan to consolidate them into long-term bonds locked in at lower interest rates in the future. Interest rates haven't gone down, which means when the short-term bonds come due, he won't be able to do that
Do you mean in general or the specifics of the post you quoted? If you mean in general, high bond rates are bad because they: 1) slow corporate borrowing which is essential to US growth; 2) increase the cost of debt servicing by the government (which can lead to austerity measures); 1/
K'thug has you covered. There's a problem but the doom talk is mostly people who desperately want to cut Medicare and social Security.
There's an inverse relationship between bond prices and yields. When bond prices drop, yields go up. This is fundamental in fixed income markets. Main Factors Pushing Bond Yields Up 1. Inflation Expectations 2. Geopolitical Risk 3. Fiscal Deficits & Debt Supply (from Lumo)
I would suggest you start listening (or reading) @unftr.com over at UNFTR. He speaks about the economy in way all of us can understand. He doesn't gate his content (I am a member) so seeing what he has to say won't cost you anything.
Paul Krugman has been covering this lately. I don't quite understand it either. (He's on youtube and substack.)
