educationAug 21, 20263699

Students across Ireland received their 2026 Leaving Certificate results today, with results posted online from 10am and schools opening their doors for pupils to collect grades. The State Examinations Commission said competition for higher education remains intense after more than 95,000 applications were submitted to the CAO system for college placements. Average grades have fallen from pandemic-era peaks and fewer students achieved top grades, a trend that will increase pressure as the CAO processes applications and Round One college offers are expected soon. In Donegal more than 2,300 students completed the Leaving Certificate and a further 253 finished the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. The ASTI president publicly congratulated the Leaving Cert 2026 cohort. Reporting on subject patterns noted that physics and chemistry are widely seen as difficult yet continue to record relatively high H1 rates. A Leaving Certificate helpline is available for students and families seeking support today on 1800 265 165.
