GCSE results day: some schools report record pass rates

Thousands of pupils collected GCSE results today as schools in Cambridgeshire published grades and pass‑rate updates, with local outlets running live school‑by‑school coverage. Cllr Edna Murphy, chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s children and young people committee, congratulated students and families, warned that grades do not always reflect effort, and urged anyone unhappy with results to seek help. National analysis shows the gender gap has narrowed as boys close in on girls’ outcomes while more pupils failed English and maths this year. In Wales regional results diverged: Swansea reported 23 percent of entries were A* or A, up on last year and above the Wales average, and Carmarthenshire’s A* to C rate rose to 63.4 percent, outpacing the Wales pass rate. Students are receiving GCSE grades and technical awards that will determine progression to sixth form, college, or training this autumn.
