Arsenal, who ended a 22-year wait to be Premier League champions last season, are the clear favourite to defend the title in the 2026-27 previews published by BBC Sport. BBC Sport asked 26 TV and radio pundits to pick their top four and included an AI prediction generated with Microsoft Copilot Chat and Opta's 'supercomputer' output. Opta model simulated all 380 league matches 10,000 times and arrived at the same top-four conclusion as the AI and three of the pundits. The pundits made their forecasts using squads as they stood on Thursday 20 August, with the transfer window still open until 23:00 BST on Tuesday 1 September. This year seven different clubs were named across pundits' top-four picks in 15 different combinations, and 89% of the predictors cited in the article, 25 of 28, expect Arsenal to successfully defend their crown with no predictor placing them lower than second. Contributors who backed Arsenal cited continuity under Mikel Arteta, an 85-point title-winning campaign last season and summer reinforcements such as Bruno Guimaraes joining a midfield that already features Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi. Pundits including Theo Walcott, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Danny Murphy emphasized Arsenal's momentum, consistency and strengthened squad as reasons they are the team to beat.
