Frank Beard, ZZ Top drummer, dies at 77
I'm sorry to hear that Frank Beard of ZZ Top has passed, at age 77. He and I chatted on several occasions when I was a deejay, and I found him to be very courteous and good-hearted. He was also a talented musician. May he rest in peace. apnews.com/article/fran...
The American Charlie Watts. Deep in the pocket with just the right flourish at just the right time. Great, great player. RIP brother.
Another, much less famous drummer also passed away recently boulgerfuneralhome.com/obits/robert...
I saw ZZ Top at Dusty's 2nd to last concert. May he and Frank RIP. 😢
I will miss Frank. I saw ZZ Top at Red Rocks in Colorado and again at the Windstar casino years ago. Most fun I ever had in a concert. May he rest in peace.
He was one of my drum teachers favorites. " The guy had perfect tempo ", he once told me
They only one without a beard 🤔
Frank Beard was such a great drummer. If you think you know ZZ Top, listen to this.
Well, shit. Sometimes you find out someone is off to the great gig in the sky when other people start talking about them in the past tense. So much of how good a band sounds live is down to the feel of the drummer. ZZ Top were one of the best-sounding live bands I'd ever heard, every time.

Frank Beard from ZZ Top has died. Is this an urban myth, or was he the only member of ZZ Top without a beard?
They had a session guitarist called Gary Goatee who had massive sideburns.
Rookie error. He’s the dude without a top from XYBeard. 🍍
He was. And I have a sad. 😞
Was true for a number of years but he grew a small beard about 15 years ago. Was part of the charm of the band.
I remember Tommy Vance introducing him as “Frank (who hasn’t got one) Beard” when he played their 1983 Donington set on his Rock Show.
In honor of the accomplishments of Frank Beard I am listening to the ZZ Top discography from the beginning. a good half of these records I’ve never heard.
First up ‘ZZ Top’s First Album‘ (1970) Never heard before. The material isn’t especially distinctive but it isn’t generic either. The playing is solid and so are the tunes, all short & to the point. Nothing stood out except the final tune, ‘Backdoor Love Affair’ which is a hell of a jam. 🌯🌯🌯
I ought to do that, I literally only know the song that Phish played to death then the songs that MTV played to death
strangely there's never enough bottom end in their records for me until eliminator and then the problem went away listen to: i need you tonight
Please follow up with a top 5 deep dive list so I can skip that but still reap the benefits
Would like to hear the Dead do Cheap Sunglasses with an extended outro
they made a good number of solid rock & roll records. good band imo

Day 18 - Late Night Music Month Bonus The Carson appearance was the 1st time that ZZT ever performed on live TV. ZZ Top - La Grange - TSwJL 11/6/03 ZZ Top closed out the broadcast with a high-energy rendition of La Grange while promoting their 14th album Mescalero. @realtexaspaul.com
I remember watching this when it was broadcast. It was strange seeing ZZ Top on Carson! Sharp Dressed Man was rough--the horns reminded me of Elvis on the Dorsey Brothers show. Tush was much better. They got an encore, then disappeared...and Johnny with the beard! Mind-blowing.
