Bird of the Day is a daily community event; today's main theme is #Fledglings, offered as an alternate to #50ShadesOfGrey. Contributors are sharing photos of newly fledged birds alongside grey-plumaged subjects, with many juvenile shorebirds and passerines on display. Notable posts include a recently fledged Pine Siskin foraging under a feeder on the Bruce Peninsula, a five-month-old Harpy eagle juvenile waiting in a nest in Mato Grosso, Brazil, and a Tawny Frogmouth chick nicknamed "Curious George" at the University of Queensland Great Court. A Black-tailed Godwit stands in shallow blue water, its long, straight, slightly upturned pink-and-black bill pointing to the left. Its warm brown, intricately patterned plumage contrasts with its pale belly, while its long dark legs create gentle ripples around its feet. The calm water provides a striking, almost mirror-like reflection of the bird, stretching down beneath it and adding a lovely sense of symmetry to the photograph.

Interesting facts: Black-tailed Godwits are remarkable long-distance migrants, with some travelling thousands of kilometres between their breeding and wintering grounds. Their exceptionally long bills are perfectly adapted for probing deep into mud and soft ground for worms, insects and other invertebrates. They also have a distinctive black-and-white tail pattern, which gives them their name. In the UK and Ireland, they are particularly associated with wetlands, estuaries and coastal mudflats.

Did you get the film line reference? First film, Charlie Tango is the name of Mr Grey's chopper. The films are genuinely fascinating from a character perspective, and the soundtracks are decent too. This photograph which I took on a grey day in Volendam, Netherlands, reminded me of a helicopter on a launch pad on top of a tall building.

A black-headed gull (feel free to disagree bird folks) sits atop a folded patio umbrella centre stage. In the background is a small jetty with a little wooden hut at the end. Behind is a vast expanse of water with the outline of a sliver of land and a boat on the horizon. Dark clouds loom overhead.
