Rhasidat Adeleke won the silver medal in the women's 200m at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, clocking 22.28, a new Irish national record. Amy Hunt took gold in 22.19 while Dina Asher-Smith finished third in 22.29. Adeleke was around fourth as they straightened for home but dug deep, moving into third then outfighting Asher-Smith on the line to claim second. She said her initial reaction crossing the line was disappointment at not winning, then she realised she had broken the national record and felt grateful. Adeleke described the past season as heavy to carry and said the national record and medal give her confidence as she looks to enjoy the sport again.
