Darline Graham and Ralph Norman advance to South Carolina GOP runoff

Appointed Sen. Darline Graham and Rep. Ralph Norman advanced to an Aug. 25 Republican runoff to determine the GOP nominee for the late Lindsey Graham’s U.S. Senate seat. Neither candidate won a majority in a crowded primary of 10 contenders, so the top two moved on; multiple outlets including NBC News, AP and WSJ projected the runoff. Darline Graham is Lindsey Graham’s sister and had President Donald Trump’s endorsement; Ralph Norman is a sitting U.S. representative. Former Rep. Russell Fry finished third and will not advance; former Gov. Mark Sanford was also a notable candidate in the field. Lindsey Graham’s death on July 11 triggered the special election process; the Aug. 25 runoff winner will be the Republican nominee in the special election to fill his seat.

We have a runoff set in South Carolina, per the AP: It'll be Darline Graham versus Ralph Norman for the GOP nomination for Lindsey Graham's seat. Russell Fry comes in third, which means he'll simply continue to run for his own House seat.

J6 insurrection scores for Russell Fry and Ralph Norman: neither approaches Lindsey Graham (Senate #17), but Fry is worse. Rep. Norman, like many, signed a Dec. 10 amicus brief and voted against certifying, but then did little til 2024. Rep. Fry, elected in 2022, was immediately VERY eager to help.

Okay, there it is: Second runoff slot in #SCSen for Ralph Norman. The runoff will take place in just two weeks. A big q is whether the wealthy Norman self-funds much. He spent more than $5 mil for his unsuccessful gov bid in June but barely touched his wallet this time.
