Spotify will begin adding “AI Persona” badges to artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities, and by default will exclude those artists’ music from its editorial and algorithmic recommendations starting in mid-September. The badge will appear in the profile banner, the About section, in Search, and on track rows across playlists. Artists may self-identify as AI Personas, but Spotify will also review profiles using human checks and automated tools, starting with accounts that meet pre-defined audience thresholds. Music from AI Personas will not be included in personalized recommendations unless a user explicitly follows that artist; Spotify says the label judges the profile’s public identity, not how the music was produced. Spotify will let artists appeal an AI Persona label and will roll out a user reporting tool for unlabeled AI Persona profiles. The change expands Spotify’s existing AI policies, which already label AI music, ban unauthorized voice clones and deepfakes, and provide music-creation details through features like AI Credits and SongDNA.
