my own relationship with Harry Potter is, I think, bog-standard for a median-age millennial: I enjoyed the books just fine when I was an actual child, and I retained fairly pleasant memories about them until it was revealed that JK Rowling is a repulsive person

But JKR lost me early on when she kept adding to the canon instead of just letting the work stand on its own (Dumbledore is gay, the wizards used to shit on the floor, etc). Kids doing magic via cgi off the coattails of the pioneering work of Jurassic and Matrix was well timed. That’s it.
