Bird of the Day is a daily event with the theme #BestFootForward, any bird taking a step forward or standing on one leg, with an alternate theme #ASplashOfColour to celebrate vibrant plumage or colourful backgrounds. Today's gallery shows walking and one-legged poses across many species, from shorebirds and herons to gulls, owls, cockatoos, and parrots, often captured in active stalking, stepping, or perched poses. Concrete entries include a little egret fishing, a puffin on the Farne Islands, and a sulphur-crested cockatoo striding toward a treat; other posts show a pied wagtail on frost, a burrowing owl giving a stern look, and a male red-winged blackbird in striking colour.

A Little Egret coming in to land on a lush green field, its brilliant white wings fully spread and its long black leg extended forward, with yellow-green feet reaching towards the ground. Its slender black bill points ahead and its alert eye is clearly visible. Sunlight illuminates the delicate wing feathers, while the softly blurred green grass and sparkling highlights in the background add a fresh, vibrant feel to the scene.

You see here coupe Storks on their nest in Nature Parc Lelystad. This Parc had a breeding program when the storks where almost gone in the Netherlands. The youngster from this breeding program stays year round in the park and its surroundings. A few are going back to their wintergrounds in Africa in September and coming back in April to brood again. The nest stand high on a platform and is growing bigger every year. Photo is make with my SamsungS25ultra.

Photograph taken many years ago on the quayside at Padstow, Cornwall. A seagull was strutting up and down the quayside like a fashion model. I was crouched down to take this shot. Image is horizontally split into three with the central section being the largest. The bottom section is a concrete floor then an expanse of dark green-blue harbour water, the the strong verticals of the concrete harbour wall at the top. Upon the concrete floor a seagull is side-on walking towards the right-hand frame edge. Behind it on the water are various colourful small boats, in red-orange, pale orange, white, and a couple covered in tarpaulins of royal blue and burgundy. There are reflections of the boats in the harbour water. I like Padstow very much but not the crowds. Escaping to the stunning Prideaux Place and enjoying views of the estuary from the gardens is my favourite way to visit. It's set further back from the bustling harbour where many people just like to fawn over celeb-branded fish and chips. All good if that's your thing, but it's not for me.
