NYT: US weapons stockpiles depleted by Iran war

newsAug 8, 202617577

The New York Times reports months of U.S. fighting in the Iran war have burned through American munitions, depleting stockpiles and eroding U.S. firepower in affected regions. The story says the depletion is large enough that military and intelligence officials expect it will take years to reconstitute supplies, and Tom Karako told the Times this is likely to affect the decision calculus of Russia and China. Critics in sample commentary tied the shortages to administration choices and to public claims by Donald Trump that the United States has an "unlimited supply" of missiles. Commenters and some analysts warned the shortfall could leave allies vulnerable if they cannot or do not build up their own stockpiles. The reporting frames the depletion as a strategic shift that Moscow and Beijing are watching for opportunities to act at a time of their choosing.

“Since the collapse of munitions stockpiles, it was revealed that the Pentagon’s policy chief Elbridge Colby has been tasked with drafting a new strategy that emphasises the use of tactical nuclear weapons in any war with China or Russia.”

The idiots are in charge of the circus. Colby couldn't beat a NAFO fella; how is he going to draft a strategy? The real question is why did they waste our arsenal on a war no American wanted? Against an adversary we knew we didn't have enough munitions for.

Tactical nuclear weapons do not exist. Military planners and strategists want you to think that using low-yield nuclear devices on the battlefield won't result in instant escalation but they absolutely fucking will. They already know this as they spent millions gaming it out during the Cold War.

If it makes you feel better, Strategy Cheese possibly has less effect on military policy than a book I wrote that has a story about my grandmother mistaking me for being gay.

The last two decades of US air defence procurement has been a complete waste. They continually aimed for defence against the most sophisticated threats resulting in interceptors costing $4.2M each. And now they are being stripped apart by a simple raid. defencetalks.com/us-patriot-m...

I hope they don't try to resurrect the Davey Crockett 😳 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Cr...

The thing about corruption is - it encourages more corruption, and pretty soon everything is corroded by that corruption.

I think if the president uses a nuclear weapon they should be [redacted] immediately by the secret service. I believe this for Truman too

Every administration does a review of US nuclear strategy. This time they're doing a "mini review" instead of a full NPR. We've known this since last year.
