FCC removes cap on broadcast TV ownership
This is one of the most catastrophic developments imaginable for US media and the country. I don’t even have the words for it.
Our government shovels our national currency to Oligarchs Oligarchs use our national currency to buy government Our government says it’s ok for them to create monopolies with our national currency
It also seems to me massively illegal, since the caps are set in statute.
i will die on that hill right beside you: bsky.app/profile/josh...
More blatant corruption by the most corrupt government in U.S. history.
Bill Clinton's most significant legacy by far
Fascism is here. Y'all better be paying attention. If you tell lies long enough they become defacto truth as young people don't know how things were before..
oh great. a new catastrophic development i didn't even know about before.
Oh no. Oh no no no no no
Not sure which is wilder, the FCC chair announcing policy change in an op-ed for *Breitbart*, or the sentence: "The rule remained unaltered for more than two decades partly because it is codified in federal law."
Independent media is now more important than ever. Subscribe to a newspaper with reporters who ask hard and relevant questions. Support your favorite podcasters who do real news, not just opinion. Support local artists and buy books. Old media is dying, especially network TV. This seals it! ⚰️💀🔚
Everyday they break something that's going to take months if not years to fix.
Republicans are going to buy all this shit up like they did with social media and every channel will be Fox news.
Yeah this is not looking good
Trump continues to create a propaganda machine for his MAGA agenda. This move by the FCC weakens longstanding ownership protections for broadcast media, making it easier for him to control what Americans see, hear, and read. This is straight out of a dictator's playbook.
It’s communist level shit just as taking ownership of private companies
The ultimate goal is for all major media to be owned and controlled by the billionaires fascists who benefit from the Trump regime.
Hope the next president is given a list of all the damage they need to undo, with the legislation and EOs ready to go to do it.
They can change the rules all they want, but antitrust laws are set by Congress.
This does not bode well.
30 years after telecom act of 96 and the capture is complete
as a lifetime radio broadcaster I can tell you this is absolute tripe. @governor.ca.gov is right!
I’ve started picking up DVDs and Blu-rays for $2.00 each at thrift stores lately… The time is coming where you better own your media because you’re not gonna be able to watch anything without spending lots of money and only getting what they want to show
We have so much work to do after we take over. Soooo much. #VoteLikeYourLifeDependsOnIt
Continued corporate consolidation of broadcast television is as big a deal as the attempted mergers by the Ellison family, if not bigger. www.nbcnews.com/business/med...
Broadcast television is so much more culturally relevant to many more people than prestige television or movies, which occupy a lot of the discourse. It already skews conservative, and letting monopolies form will only make it that much more conservative.
Yeah, because there’s only three networks and someone can buy them all up 🤪
I hope the next president (who will be a Democrat) will have in their plan a series of trust-bustings!
don’t mess with the last of the free, broadcast
The federal government isn’t protecting the population anymore. ☹️
Ok, so I'm even LESS inclined to own a TV now. *gets a projector for my Apple TV and uses the app for the local news* I cut the cords years ago this will not inspire me to go the other way. Silly and shortsighted.
capitalism is supposed to thrive with competition. allowing big businesses to buy up everything to control things like our media outlets is turning it all into a monopoly. It's the East India Company of the airwaves.
FCC eliminates the longstanding national limit on the number of TV stations that a single entity can own on a 2-1 vote that is likely to draw legal challenges. variety.com/2026/biz/new...
Pay to play really pays off in this criminal administration.
This is bad - the consolidation of Media. I hope it can be stopped.
This is totally evil, and anti-trust.
Makes it easier for a future Dem president to proceed with eminent domain on national security concerns.
A continuation of what Clinton did, leading up to and including the Telecom Act of 1996.
These companies will need to be broken up asap
The Plot to Enslave America
So much easier to let the oligarchs control absolutely everything once you remove the thing that prevents them from owning absolutely everything. 🤷♂️
The attempt to consolidate media voices in order to gain a monopoly on narrative. The gentrification of the internet is being done under similar auspices.
It will take generations to undo this administration’s damage
Always standing up for the little guy, these mopes
The FCC voted 2-1 along party lines to eliminate the 39% national TV ownership cap on broadcast station reach, and advanced proposals to expand direct-to-device satellite connectivity using unlicensed wireless spectrum. #ProudBlue 📹: @aaronparnas.bsky.social
Republicans love capitalism… except for the competition part.
Musk and Putin will be pleased. As will Trump when they pay him for services received.
I receive more important up-to-date news and info from this man than probably everyone else combined.
Rural . What about rural communities that don't get a tower?
Proponents say local broadcast journalism won’t survive without consolidation and economies of scale to compete with Big Tech. Opponents say consolidation will result in fewer local journalists and corporate-imposed fealty to the Trump administration. www.nbcnews.com/business/med...
A sane person might suggest the answer is to break "Big Tech" into smaller pieces rather than allowing more consolidation in broadcast.
So corrupt. The FCC will now receive their bribery money. SCOTUS legalized bribery in Snyder v. U.S.,In a 6-3 decision which ruled a federal anti-corruption statute (18 U.S.C. § 666) does not criminalize "gratuities" gifts given to public officials after they have performed an official act.
Brendan Carr ... the guy who literally wrote the book on destroying the FCC (or at least, the chapter in Project 2025 about it). They are dismantling our government and regulations intended to protect and help people, so they can make obscenely rich people even richer.
what doesn’t the FCC understand about the word —local
Because media consolidation certainly saved print news... oh wait! The opposite of that! *deep sigh*
One more step toward the monopolization of our industries and services. Healthy capitalism depends on competition, not concentrated corporate power. Under Trump, the erosion of antitrust enforcement and unchecked corporate consolidation pose an existential threat to America’s economy and democracy.
The FCC has voted to remove the cap on TV station ownership, delivering a big win to media companies aligned with President Trump and the GOP. Here's our full story about what it means: www.cnn.com/2026/08/06/m...
Say goodbye to your local news station as it now becomes a source for fascist misinformation. bsky.app/profile/bria...
The best government money can buy! But, you know, only idiots get their news from the "idiot box."
Saudi Wealth Fund Takes Hollywood. No, really. Takes Hollywood.
My understanding is only Congress can change it, and IMO, it should be changed back to 25%
Dismantling 'enemy' media seems to be the orange demagogue's job #1! 🤔 Succeed at that and the rest is 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘺! 😒
Thwart their machinations, I suggest.
