Kevin Alcántara hits first Major League home run, gives Cubs lead

On August 3, 2026 Kevin Alcántara belted his first Major League home run, a two-run shot off Dodgers lefty Justin Wroblewski that put the Chicago Cubs ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the second. The fly ball to left center scored Dansby Swanson and was recorded at 395 feet with a 106.1 mph exit velocity and a 22 degree launch angle; the pitch was a 94.6 mph four-seam. Alcántara had been recalled from Triple-A before the game and was starting in left field. The long ball was his first MLB homer of the season and came during a game in which the Cubs later scored multiple homers and won 10-5.

Not that I'm defending Stearns, or think any prospect we're going to get in the next 2 days is going to amount to anything, but Alcantara is a .272 hitter in the minors with 19 hr and .911 ops. He's gone 4-20 with the Cubs. But not even a Cubs top 30, so I don't even know why I'm posting this.

and between James Triantos, Matt Shaw, and Pedro Ramirez, the Cubs have a trio of pretty highly regarded prospects with absolutely no hope of a full-time role any time soon. Kevin Alcantara probably needs somewhere to play, too. They're well situated to make a big trade. Let's hope they do.
