I won’t fault people for not liking the gore* in this week’s STRANGE NEW WORLDS, but STAR TREK is no stranger to it. Paramount wanted it toned down. Gene told the production team to push the limits, and they did. *It unsettles me a bit depending on how much and context.

I do feel like this is one of those cases where a couple of outlier moments don't make a pattern though. In 30 plus years of Star Trek it was basically just this moment and maybe a bit of Wrath of Khan.

There's usually something that blunts realism in older trek and takes a lot of the scary out of it, this was more visceral and just plain graphic than folks expected, I think.

IMO as a fellow horror hater, The Griffin Incident is far more bearable than Shuttle to Kenfori. I despise zombies. <shudder> OTOH, that at least had an explanation while this was a ghost story which - currently - seems pointless. But we'll roll the dice anew next week.
