Australian music journalist, historian and broadcaster Glenn A Baker has died aged 74, his family and colleagues announced. His death was posted on his Facebook profile and was announced by fellow music journalist Stuart Coupe; the post said he died three days after his birthday. Baker won the BBC's Rock Brain of the Universe three times in the mid-1980s, helped on the mid-1970s research project that led to the formation of 2JJ which became triple j, and began his radio career hosting a trivia program before moving to Triple M. He managed the band Ol'55, co-established Raven Records in 1979, edited Billboard magazine for more than 20 years, wrote 17 books and supplied sleeve notes for more than 600 albums. Known for a vast personal collection and distinctive brimless hats, Baker said he owned 80,000 records and about 30,000 CDs; a portrait of him by artist Nafisa won the 2010 Archibald Packing Room Prize. His son Orson said Baker had experienced a period of illness, described him as someone who "absolutely grabbed life," and noted Baker visited over 150 countries and worked as a travel writer while closely promoting Australian music.
