Elon Musk says he'd give Mel Gibson $100M to make an 'accurate' Odyssey film

Elon Musk posted that he would be “down” to give Mel Gibson 100 million dollars to make a purportedly "historically accurate" film version of The Odyssey after showing an AI-created Grok clip and saying Grok Imagine will make a full-length, Homer-faithful movie before year’s end. Musk has publicly criticized Christopher Nolan over casting choices in Nolan’s hit Odyssey, including Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, while Nolan’s film continues to set box-office and critical records. Forbes notes many social-media users oppose the film and that an AI-made Odyssey clip has already circulated with negative attention. The article points out Gibson’s recent work, including the 2025 film Flight Risk which holds a 28 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, and that Gibson is reportedly tied up with two-part Resurrection of the Christ films planned for 2027 and 2028. Forbes also cautions Musk often promises projects he may not ultimately fund, citing his past financial support for actress Gina Carano after her firing. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to challenge box office dominance soon, Forbes says Nolan’s Odyssey likely has only about a week more at the top of ticket sales, making any competing Odyssey project time-sensitive.
