Nvidia in talks to guarantee $250 billion for OpenAI data center

techJul 26, 202616658

Nvidia is in talks to provide a roughly $250 billion backstop for OpenAI to lease a 10-gigawatt data-center project that SoftBank’s energy subsidiary is developing in southern Ohio, the Wall Street Journal reports. The guarantees would help OpenAI secure the lease for what the report says could be one of the largest AI computing hubs and would involve power controlled by the U.S. government. The overall project could cost more than $500 billion, including the chips that would go inside the centers, making it the largest data-center project announced to date. The WSJ frames the arrangement as one of the most ambitious financial transactions so far in America’s AI boom and says Nvidia is negotiating the guarantee to backstop the lease and related debt for the build-out.
