WNBA All‑Star Game in Chicago, first All‑Star dunk in years

Chicago hosted the WNBA All-Star Weekend, and the All-Star Game broadcast featured Dom Malonga completing a dunk, the first slam dunk in a WNBA All-Star Game in years. McCormick Place held WNBA Live, a fan festival with more than 30 experiences including the league’s interactive Legacy Park exhibit and the Line ’Em Up initiative to paint 30 orange three-point lines on public courts nationwide, 15 of which the league said would be painted during the weekend. The league held public events at the new Obama Presidential Center, where All-Star practice, a Jr. WNBA clinic led by four-time MVP A’ja Wilson, and an appearance by former President Barack Obama took place. A’ja Wilson made her eighth WNBA All-Star appearance and gave shoes to more than 150 girls at the Jr. WNBA clinic. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert told reporters ahead of the All-Star Game that she will remain as commissioner. Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo attended the weekend to support Wilson. The weekend combined celebratory fan programming, visible league initiatives for community courts, and a rare in-game highlight with the All-Star dunk that energized the broadcast audience.

I think the WNBA should just fully lean into the "relaxed" play of all-star. Extra points for dunks, a 4pt only shooter on the team, sub in the coach, have a penalty box I feel like a lil rock n jock-ness would be fun!

You can tell the #WNBA All-Star weekend is equivalent to collegiate homecoming weekend for the players lmao. Primarily there for the fun and foolishness, and then are like “Oh yeah. I guess we have a game too”. 😂
