Dylan Cease threw a complete-game one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 6-0 at Fenway Park on Saturday. Cease carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Andruw Monasterio led off with a double; that was the only hit Cease allowed in a 120-pitch outing. He finished with three strikeouts in the ninth inning, the final two upheld after ABS challenges to calls on Brandon Valenzuela and Wilyer Abreu. Cease lowered his ERA to 2.46, leads MLB with 167 strikeouts, and is on track for his sixth consecutive 200-strikeout season; his career high is 13 strikeouts, set in 2023. Toronto provided five runs in the third against Sonny Gray, highlighted by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s RBI single and George Springer's three-run homer, with additional RBIs from Nathan Lukes, Kazuma Okamoto, Daulton Varsho, and Ernie Clement. Boston entered the game having won 16 of 17 but fell to 53-50, seven games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East and holding a 2.5-game wild-card lead over Seattle.
