San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a car collision on July 14 at the intersection of Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue in Palo Alto, the team said. A Palo Alto police report says Shanahan collided with an SUV at 6:13 p.m., sustaining fractures to his nose, ribs and hand; he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The police report says the SUV driver was not injured, no one has been cited and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved. The 49ers said Shanahan will take part in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp; he has been mostly working from home and has made brief visits to the team facility. Assistant head coach and offensive line coach Chris Foerster will run training camp with defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and others assisting. Veterans report Saturday and the team’s first practice is scheduled for Sunday. The team described the injuries as non-life-threatening and offered no timeline for Shanahan’s full return to regular duties.
