Cecilia Vega says CBS editors pushed coverage of events 'that never happened'

Two months after her May firing from 60 Minutes, Cecilia Vega told an audience at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists conference in New Orleans on July 23 that CBS News executives pressured her to include events she and her team could not verify. Vega said executives asked her to include a purported remark by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey telling Police Chief Brian O’Hara to confront ICE agents and asked for footage of protesters attacking suspected undercover ICE agents, but her team found no evidence of either. Vega tied that pressure to the October hiring of Bari Weiss as CBS News editor in chief by Paramount CEO David Ellison and said the new administration began attending in-progress screenings to give extensive, politicized feedback. Vega, who joined 60 Minutes in January 2023 as its first Latina correspondent, was fired in May alongside correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and senior producers Tanya Simon and Draggan Mihailovich; Anderson Cooper resigned and Scott Pelley was fired in early June. Consider that Vega would have never said anything had she not been fired. Only loss of position brought her story out. I am not saying that it is not the truth, I believe it is. But, that we can't trust the corporate press to be honest, except, at best, in retrospect when the rehab their reputations
