Brent crude topped $100 a barrel as renewed US strikes on Iran and Houthi attacks in the Red Sea raised fears of tighter global supply. The US completed a 13th consecutive night of strikes on Iran while moving special operations forces, weapons, medics and staging jet fighter squadrons across the Middle East to give President Donald Trump broader military options, the Wall Street Journal reported. Yemen’s Houthi fighters declared a Red Sea blockade and struck two Saudi oil tankers, and Kpler data showed just one tanker crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, New Giant, carrying two million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude to China’s Rizhao port. Trump warned on social media that damages to ships or cargo would be paid from Iranian funds the US controls and said Iran “hasn’t received enough pain yet” as he weighs larger strikes. Asian equity markets fell and borrowing costs rose after oil surged, with analysts noting oil has gained more than 30 percent this month and benchmark prices moved back to levels last seen in May. Disrupted shipping through both the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint is tightening market sentiment and is prompting elevated military and market alarm over near-term oil flows.
