Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £34m for Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba. The 20-year-old French midfielder is due on Tyneside on Thursday to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract. The transfer follows Newcastle selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and signing 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax as they pursue another young midfielder. Freiburg target Johan Manzambi instead joined Aston Villa last week, leaving Bamba as a primary midfield addition. Reports situate the package at roughly €40m in some outlets, while club coverage frames it as up to £34m. Among Ligue 1 midfielders with at least 500 minutes last season, Bamba ranked top five for duels won (9.1 per game), tackles (3.6), successful take-ons (1.6) and aerial duels won (1.9). Newcastle expect the move to complete after the medical and contract signing on Thursday.
