Xbox brings original Xbox backward compatibility to PC

calling it "backwards compatibility" suggests if I have own one of these games on disc that I can stick it in my computer's disc drive and play it now. This is not what backwards compatibility is, this is just new ports.

there are many depressing facets to this but one of the most depressing (to me) is the people in the reddit post regarding this announcement being like "wow the addition of achievements to old games really sells me on re-playing them". that's what gets you interested? achievements? to what end?

Including Blinx here is very apt because it's the old Xbox game that larpers speak highly about but never actually played. If they had played it they would know it was middling wankery. So of course it's included in the first wave of PC back compat games from this Xbox leadership.

BIG Xbox news, Microsoft are still ghouls that you shouldn't give money to, and you can buy / softmod an old Xbox for pretty cheap anyway. It's still one of the cheapest retro consoles to collect games for too, if that's your jam.

This is not a callout of Tom, writing in the game space now sucks and is reliant on clicks, but it's wild to me that MS thinks they can make a splash with Xbox emulation on PC, as if this isn't something fans and communities have been doing for years and years.

This is not "backwards compatibility" unless you can stick the Xbox disc in your PC and play it. This is a port. Four 25 year old Xbox games have been ported to PC. Woopty doo.

I'll add that you can get a 360 and some used games and support your local game store. You can even buy already modded 360s or send in yours somewhere to be modded.
