Black Women's Equal Pay Day marked, advocates demand action
Today is Black Women's Equal Pay Day. And in 2026, Black women are STILL only making 65 cents on the dollar. Pay Black women. Period.
the only reason we dont have medicare for all when they started Medicare? the south didnt want blacks to have healthcare. and still dont. look at all the medical places closing down in texas and the confederacy. going to get worse when the big bullshit bill takes effect after the mids.
So true queen! Look how little AIPAC is paying you in comparison to one of their higher-ranking members. You need to demand equal pay for all corrupt pro-genocide freaks!
I wish you lived in my state, so I could vote for you. Thank you for all you are, and all you do!
Your voice in Congress is going to be so missed. (Gerrymandering your seat has me raging with the fire of 1000 suns, but I digress). Looking forward to the wonderful advocacy I know you will bring in your next chapter! ❤️ (signed, SF fangirl)

Feels like a member of congress should do something about that. 🤔 I understand why you made the post but what exactly would you like us to do about it? Seriously asking because I've been fired from jobs twice over demanding equal pay for all and I'm getting nowhere...
For #BlackWomenEqualPayDay, @ayannapressley.bsky.social and I in @bostonglobe.com discussing why the attacks against workers begin and end with Black women. There is no world where workers are valued, and Black women workers are not. Either the economy serves us all, or it serves no one. #blacksky
lol didn't have writing an op-ed with a Congressperson on my 2026 bingo card, but here we are. Also, I'll be on @nbcnews.com today discussing why #BlackWomenEqualPayDay is a time to reflect on what more we can do for workers. See you at 1:45 PM and 3:45 PM EST! #blacksky
Angela Davis was tapping her whiteboard for decades highlighting this message. Until we embrace it, we will remain stuck in this foolishness.
I’ll never not be furious that my DEI colleagues were sounding the alarm on this *three years ago* and were met with eye rolls from white liberals 🫤
Love this for y'all, the Globe, and Boston. BRING IT
HUD’s recent decision to direct critical funds away from community-based fair housing organizations will also lead to a loss of jobs for Black women. Help us save their jobs and keep vital resources in communities nationwide: takeaction.io/nfha/contact...
We LOVE a top story. Read, share, and discuss. Make sure to tag @pressley.house.gov @ayannapressley.bsky.social and I! #BlackWomenEqualPayDay
“Ignoring the “double tax,” or the compounded cost of racism and sexism, affects not only Black women but also anyone whose identity is peripheral. Our nation cannot afford to ignore the dignity of Black women because that calls into the question the dignity of all workers.” 🤬
The implicit threat for everyone who isn't a Black woman is: "Behave, or we'll treat you like one of THEM."
Black women have to work an extra 7 months to earn what white men earn in a year. Equal work deserves equal pay. #BlackWomensEqualPayDay
thank you for recognizing this future Senator El-Sayed 🥹
Agree. A former colleague of mine was asked to assume the role of a manager that just left the org. When she asked for the pay and title she was guilted, harangued, and gaslit by especially HR leaders. There’s nothing wrong with being paid correctly for the work you do.
This is so pandery. There is major difference in career choices and such that influence. Don’t run like this please…..
What is your policy proposal to accomplish that?
Too little too late turd.
Company HR audits from government need to be way more common to help with this. Also best practices for right siding salary. I worked as a internal recruiter and helped people negotiate if they were underpaid from their previous company. I just told the managers what they were asking for.
This is a very needy post.
On Black Women's Equal Pay Day, I partnered with @itsafronomics.blacksky.app to make plain that attacks against workers begin & end with Black women. Our op-ed explores the parallel crisis Black women are facing in low pay & high unemployment and what Congress & the Fed should do about it.
"At the end of the day, there is no scenario where Black women lose and everybody else wins. Either the economy serves us all or it ultimately serves no one." Thank you, @pressley.house.gov, for seeking equity for all. 🙏
Good reminder to pick up @itsafronomics.blacksky.app 's book, The Double Tax if you haven't already. It's a great read! www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/734115...
And what Congress and the Feds SHOULD DO ABOUT IT!
