Light Flip arrives, $299 minimalist 5G flip phone

Light Phone unveiled the Light Flip, a minimalist flip phone that costs $299 and will ship in April 2027 with reservations open now. The clamshell lacks a front screen, showing only a notification LED, and opens to a 2.8-inch OLED; input is via a D-pad, three function keys, confirm/cancel buttons, and T9 typing. Hardware includes 5G, USB-C, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Nano SIM and eSIM support, a 12-megapixel rear camera, stereo speakers, two microphones, and a replaceable 1,800 mAh battery; there is a headphone jack but no NFC. Light Phone says the Flip runs its LightOS tools such as Phone, Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, and Directions, and a recently announced SDK will let third parties build additional tools that may be adapted for the Flip. Light is offering a 24-month purchase option at 39 dollars per month that bundles service over AT&T and T-Mobile networks with 1 GB of data and unlimited calls and texts; the company also notes RAM-driven price increases for the Light Phone III, which is now listed at 899 dollars. The Flip is plastic to keep costs down and will be available in six colors: black, navy, red, pink, yellow, and light gray.

honestly i'm pretty interested in this. yes, you can easily get older flip/brick phones anywhere, but one with like up-to-date messaging apps and such is waaay more useful than something that can just about connect to 2G! i just wish the price was waaaay lower.
