Epstein survivor Jess Michaels said she and other survivors were "gaslit" during a meeting last week with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, telling MS NOW that Blanche repeatedly denied that anything in Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein could prompt further investigations. Michaels said the meeting felt like "hitting a brick wall," that Blanche skipped over survivors' information, and that his attempts at empathy came off as patronizing. Blanche initially told lawmakers he could not legally meet with survivors, and the meeting was first handled by his assistant before he agreed to attend. Survivors and critics have urged the Senate not to confirm Blanche to be attorney general, arguing his handling of the Justice Department's release of Epstein records was flawed. The Justice Department released a final tranche of Epstein files in January, adding 3 million documents to a public database, but the rollout drew criticism for delays and redaction methods that some survivors say failed to protect victim privacy. Republican Sen. Thom Tillis pushed Blanche to meet survivors, calling the meeting "a very important part of getting to yes" on Blanche's confirmation, and Blanche has acknowledged to lawmakers that mistakes were made fixing redaction errors. Survivors say the meeting left them disappointed and undaunted and continue to press the Senate to block Blanche's confirmation.
