Keir Starmer went to Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles and formally tender his resignation as prime minister. Broadcasters including the BBC reported the palace military band played a Bon Jovi medley as Starmer arrived. The move followed Starmer’s final speech from No 10 and came as Andy Burnham was invited to form a government. Andy Burnham was then confirmed as prime minister after the palace audience, described in coverage as the customary 'kissing hands' with the king.

The condescension of much of the BBC now embodied by Fiona Bruce going 'of course, most of the tourists outside Buckingham Palace today know anything about the politics of this'. You know, I think they might? Today? Feels like a reasonable guess that they've come specially, like.
