Taco Bell Canada said its shredded lettuce has not been served at any Canadian locations after U.S. investigators traced a cyclospora outbreak to lettuce used at five Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The company posted the statement on social media after U.S. authorities identified those restaurants as a source. Data cited in news reports from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate nearly 7,000 people fell ill since May. The Public Health Agency of Canada said it is not investigating any cyclospora outbreaks in Canada, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said it is communicating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Cyclosporiasis causes watery diarrhea that can last six to seven weeks, according to the report. Taco Bell’s clarification affects Canadian customers and follows cross-border coordination between Canadian and U.S. food-safety agencies.
