Born in 1934, MJ appeared alongside her daughter and grandchildren on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and The Kardashians since the reality franchise began in 2007, and the family celebrated her 90th birthday with a hotel party in San Diego that was shown on The Kardashians. The matriarch was grandmother to Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian and Kendall and Kylie Jenner and a great-grandmother; she had two children, Kris Jenner and Karen Houghton, the latter of whom died of cardiac arrest in March 2024 at age 65. The family noted MJ had beaten cancer twice and that her blunt one-liners and sage advice earned her her own fanbase during decades of TV appearances. Kim Kardashian paid tribute calling MJ her "best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin" and credited her with teaching work ethic and strength. No cause of death was provided in the family announcement.
