The Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Chase Burns agreed to a seven-year, $105 million contract extension, a league source told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal after initial reporting by Jon Morosi. The deal contains no options or deferrals and is the largest guarantee ever given to a pitcher with less than four years of major league service time. Burns, 23, was an All-Star in 2026 and is 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA in 18 starts this season; he made 13 big-league appearances in 2025 and has 26 starts and five relief appearances overall. Burns was the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft out of Wake Forest and previously set a signing bonus record with a $9.25 million bonus. The contract will keep Burns with the Reds through the 2033 season and gives Cincinnati long-term control of a rotation that already includes Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott, both All-Stars who remain under team control through at least 2029. The deal is the largest the Reds have given a pitcher since Homer Bailey’s six-year, $105 million contract before the 2014 season.
