Bird of the Day, theme 'Birds & Flowers'

Bird of the Day is a daily community event with today’s theme Birds & Flowers and an alternate theme New Life. Contributors are posting birds posed with blossoms and recent broods, from backlit Sandhill crane landscapes to close hummingbird-to-flower feeding shots and garden scenes. Standout entries include an Atlantic puffin among daisies, a Sulphur-crested cockatoo on a balcony with matching flowers, and a freshly fledged robin chick pictured with daisies. Look for other specific pairings such as a Eurasian jay in daisies, a stonechat perched on gorse flowers, and wood duck ducklings representing New Life.

A recently fledged Willow Warbler perches on the weathered top of a moss-covered wooden fence post, softly illuminated by warm morning light. Its olive-brown upperparts, pale yellow underparts, and fluffy juvenile feathers give it a rounded, slightly scruffy appearance, while a few wispy down feathers still cling to the top of its head. The young bird gazes alertly to the right with a dark, inquisitive eye and a fine orange bill, as delicate stems of hedge bedstraw arch gracefully above and around it. The background melts into a smooth blend of green and blue, isolating the fledgling in sharp focus and highlighting the quiet beauty and vulnerability of a bird taking its first steps into independence.
