Fatal ICE shooting in Biddeford, Maine

newsJul 13, 20266520,205

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fatally shot a 26-year-old Colombian man in Biddeford, Maine, shortly before 7:20 a.m. EDT, officials reported. Local advocates identified the victim as a Colombian national authorized to work in the United States; NewsNation reported ICE was targeting a person who was facing a final order of deportation. Sen. Susan Collins called for a “full and impartial investigation,” saying Biddeford police secured the site and the FBI was investigating. Maine Gov. Janet Mills said Maine State Police were at the scene working with the Attorney General’s Office, Maine’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner and federal officials. Federal authorities, including DHS, had not yet issued a public comment in the initial reports. The shooting follows other recent lethal encounters involving federal immigration agents, including the killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston last week, prompting renewed calls from lawmakers and advocates for investigations and accountability.

“The motorist killed by ICE officers in a Maine shooting Monday was not the target of the warrant the officers were executing, Sen. Angus King said Homeland Security Secretary Mullin told him.”

ICE says he “weaponized his vehicle.” Same line that is already falling apart in the killing of S. Araujo. Same line that fell apart in murder of Renee Good. Same line ICE misused so often in Chicago that a Fed judge said it was “difficult, if not impossible, to believe almost” any such claim.

Seeing a good amount of outrage about this specific fact but I don’t think this would really be better if they had shot and killed the guy they were looking for?

They shot him in front of his 3 year old daughter - who will forever be traumatized in ways beyond both comprehension and articulation- and it wasn’t even the person they were looking for? (Who they also should not have killed, should you need the obvious spelled out)

“A federal immigration officer fatally shot a motorist in Maine on Monday, the second time in a week that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have used deadly force and at least the ninth time since Trump began his immigration crackdown.” Of course they weren’t wearing body cameras.🙈

I’m sure the victim probably possessed above the legally allowed amount of melanin.

Murder, by any other name.

While this makes it worse, shooting the target of an arrest warrant is also very, very bad. Not something we should normalize.

Translation: ICE is running around making "Kavanaugh stops" by racistly profiling people for "looking illegal," i.e., not white. This week alone, they have shot dead two people who were not the target of their (BS administrative) warrants. This must stop and only we can do it.

I watched the videos of the aftermath of ICE agents killing a man in Biddeford, Maine. I’m absolutely outraged and so many of my colleagues are silent. Do we really want our country to be a place where federal agents can gun people down in the streets with no accountability?
