World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defended his Wimbledon men’s singles title, beating Alexander Zverev 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Club to claim his second consecutive Wimbledon crown and fifth Grand Slam. Zverev slipped and appeared to hyper-extend his right knee late in the third set after a change-of-direction on grass, then showed signs of being hampered; Sinner broke for a 5-3 lead in that set and served it out. Sinner produced 58 winners to Zverev’s 49 and committed 25 unforced errors to Zverev’s 45, while Zverev led 17-15 in aces. The win came in Sinner’s first tournament since a second-round collapse at the French Open, a loss he rebounded from by ripping a forehand winner on match point and dropping to the grass in celebration. Sinner said during the trophy ceremony, "There’s no better place to play tennis." The Royal Box included Prince William, the Princess of Wales and their children, and celebrities such as Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman and Ben Stiller. Sinner’s victory extended his winning run over Zverev to 10 straight matches and reinforced his standing as the top-ranked player in the game.
