CNN: Satellite images suggest Iran may be rebuilding nuclear sites

CNN obtained and analyzed new satellite imagery that shows construction and repair activity at sites in Iran previously tied to suspected nuclear work, including apparent rebuilding at Taleghan 2 inside the Parchin Military Complex. The imagery, dated June, July, suggests Iran may be restoring facilities that U.S. and Israeli strikes damaged in February and raises questions about whether Tehran violated the memorandum of understanding it signed with the United States in late June. Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN undersecretary for peace operations, told the Security Council that attacks by the United States and Israel in late February produced a lost continuity of knowledge on Iran’s nuclear programme. Senior U.S. officials have signaled that a deal depends on delivery of nuclear material, saying "If Nuclear Material Not Delivered, No Deal With Iran." Regional mediators including Qatar and Pakistan are reported to be scrambling to prevent U.S.-Iran negotiations from collapsing in the wake of these developments. If confirmed, the rebuilding activity could undercut verification steps tied to the June memorandum and further strain diplomatic efforts to restore a negotiated settlement.
