Apple sues OpenAI alleging trade secret theft
The OpenAI-Apple lawsuit is so funny, it’s just exhibit after exhibit of a guy saying “hey guys i have access to this laptop of trade secrets, where do you want them” and ”yeah I’m not meant to have this for sure!”
The collapse of the AI industry being triggered by its code having been built on the theft of intellectual property is the kind of heavy handed plot twist critics would mock.
» Tan emailed himself information about Apple's suppliers « How did this guy make it to VP without ever learning the golden rule, "Never send an email you're not comfortable reading out loud in a courtroom"
OpenAI lawyer: "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Do you actually think OpenAI would resort to stealing to improve their product?"
Bros like "man we stole everything on the internet what are we supposed to steal now"
It is one of those times I feel ancient. Even in the 90s these guys woulda been run out of town on a rail
These are not smart people despite their pedigree.
OpenAI hardware chief Tang Tan allegedly helped coach recruits on how to evade Apple’s data security protocols and directed them to bring confidential Apple parts to job interviews at OpenAI. www.wired.com/story/apple-...
All Altman does is steal
they're all just such massive grifting pieces of shit, and they've got an utterly insane overvaluation that can break the world's economy when the bubble pops
"The iPhone-maker claims OpenAI encouraged poached Apple employees to bring over confidential presentations, secret prototypes, and key supplier details."
Sam Altman is simply a conman. OpenAI was built on lies and theft from the ground up.
If this is true than this just shows just how dumb OpenAI is as they can't even conduct a legitimate industrial espionage campaign. Do people not know how to do that anymore? Where is the CIA? They would supposedly know how to steal secrets.
OpenAI has always been based on theft and nothing but theft, and it is way past time to go after these wankers. If it has to be Apple which has been complicit, well, so be it. It's better than nobody doing it.
feels like a real landmark of impunity that major corporations are making federal crimes part of the interview process
OpenAI responds: "We have no interest in other companies' trade secrets. We remain focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere." -- Drew Pusateri, OpenAI spokesperson
So frontier AI companies finally found something they can't blatantly steal: Apple hardware
Wait, so you're telling me the giant environment destroying rape culture theft machine company did theft machine shit?
I guess when you base your entire business on theft it becomes a natural part of your day-to-day operating procedures
Thinking about how OpenAI was targeting an IPO like this quarter and cackling
Time to remake hit 2001 movie Antitrust starring Ryan Phillippe, probably
I say Arthur you say Anderson Arthur! Anderson! Arthur! Anderson! Arthur! Anderson! Arthur! Anderson! Arthur! Anderson!
I know ai sucks and everyone hates it but what if they pivoted to making the worst phone of all time? Would that help?
new headline a year out from now: ftc gives apple the go ahead to acquire openai as part of a court settlement new headline two years out from now: apple shutters openai division as financial losses from ai continue to grow
This is going to be a hell of a lawsuit. Who do we root for: the terrible company or the other terrible company? Apple sued OpenAI for systematically stealing trade secrets to build competing consumer hardware in a scheme carried out at every level of the company. www.cnbc.com/2026/07/10/a...
I honestly think that AI is going to destroy itself, and it can't happen soon enough.....
Hopefully it'll be like the old dinosaur movies, where they both fall off a cliff while fighting.
I also read that the Open AI guy is a pathetic people pleaser, and I think Tim has him tied for that too.
Naomi Klein nailed it 🎯
Whoever wins, we all lose.
OpenAI 1000x worse. Fuck them.
🌶️ "This is the tip of the iceberg. Apple lacks visibility into what’s been happening behind closed doors at OpenAI, where such misconduct is normalized and exemplified by leadership." 🌶️
The makers of a mass plagiarism machine don't hold intellectual property rules in high regard? Say it ain't so!
Holy SHIT this could be bad for OpenAI
🍿 We cannot wait for Discovery. 🍿
An industry built on theft, accused of theft? Shocking.
How many other companies have they been doing this to? Surely Apple isn’t the only company they’ve stolen trade secrets from.
Apple did no due diligence before they jumped into bed with these parasites - so cry me a river. I just hope user data isn’t compromised
The entire US economy is either theft or fraud, example the nth:
I am shocked that the company that makes the automated theft machine may be engaged in stealing trade secrets
You're telling me the theft company condones, even encourages, theft?
I really need openai to implode and if apple helps cause it and a bubble pop I'll partially forgive them for making the actual worst desktop os
I'm glad i'm not a lawyer but i'm especially glad i'm not one of OpenAI's lawyers because holy shit are they fucked if Apple has (or can get) evidence of this
I would assume it’s pretty straightforward to “not fuck with Apple,” and yet, here we are.
two places i am super glad i don’t work today
Company whose product is made from stolen material steals from its partners as well? I am shocked! If only there had been a way to see this coming...
No way. You're telling me THIS is the face of a man who lacks ethics or good judgment?
I for one am SHOCKED that OpenAI was willing to steal someone else's intellectual property
🤣🤣🤣 Let the Tech Bros just keep suing one another. "The lawsuit accuses Chief Hardware Officer Tang Tan of using Apple’s confidential project code names during OpenAI’s recruiting process, asking job candidates to bring in Apple hardware components to their interviews." 🧾 t2m.co/eW5Mxy9x
If they all eat each other, that works for me.
Look at what AI is bringing to the economy!
What?!? OpenAI stealing from Apple?!? Isn't stealing from everyone else OpenAI's business model?
Well Apple…you wanted to use AI and this is literally what AI does…copy stuff
Chris Norlund covers this epic legal wrestling match between Apple and Open AI: 📺 youtu.be/vNewift2YB8?...
I want to see Tim in prison too. I hope Jobs tortures him from beyond the grave for the damage he has done to apple
Suits btw big corps often don't have clear good guys and bad guys. But what's alleged here certainly sounds v on brand for what i understnad of the internal culture of OpenAI www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/t...
Theft of other people’s work is one of their core competencies.
In fairness, this is OpenAI’s entire business model
I, for one, am shocked an AI company would steal the intellectual property of others.
Appreciate the gift article but I will not be giving the NYT my email address.
Dawg they literally asked Apple employees to bring company property TO THE INTERVIEWS?
Seems on-brand for a company whose entire business model is "steal everything and sell it as your own"
Oh so Apple is *mad* mad.
I bring trade secrets on tinder dates.
screaming quotes across my living room
see, children think it’s good for them to get away with everything, but a typically-developing adult realizes that actually that leads first to bad and then worse openai is not run by developed adults
oh my fucking GOD lmao
More than asking questions bsky.app/profile/dmnd...
1. A company that’s entire business model and philosophy is “ha ha I took it, too bad”, which has thus far faced mostly zero consequences for said attitude and behavior. 2. Doesn’t Apple have a more sophisticated intelligence network than several countries? The perfect storm.
OpenAI deserves to get squished like a bug by Apple’s lawyers for this.
You gotta give it to the AI lifers, they only know one way to build and they really aggressively commit to it
BREAKING: Apple sued OpenAI for trade secret theft, accusing the artificial intelligence startup and its hardware chief of engaging in a coordinated campaign to steal information about upcoming products
Non-paywalled from CNBC www.cnbc.com/2026/07/10/a... I think OpenAI is screwed on this one. They were pretty blatant.
I don't give a fig what happens to Apple, but this is a case worth following, AI's basic model is industrial scale theft.
So let me get this straight. A corporation has a right to privacy, but flock cameras everywhere, spying on people is just fine
We should settle these disputes with duels between CEOs
let them fight gif and such
congrats to Sam Altman for discovering the concept of intellectual property
Who would have thought that OpenAI would steal information?.... 🙄
Shame there isn't a way to combine the "Godzilla Let Them Fight" and "Magnitude From Community" GIFs... #FizzVsGaming #FizzVsComics
If OpenAI is stealing Apple products they’re worse off than I thought.
BREAKING: Apple, $AAPL, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging misappropriation of trade secrets.
Did some Apple engineer upload the next iphone specs on ChatGPT lol.
Jackal and wolf exchanging claws while rabbits enjoying a bucket of popcorn! Welcome to the new ecosystem. What do you think the next step is gonna be? Check academics.ib out (for Maths, Science, English, Logic, Reasoning related guidance)
But how can the AI industry survive if it cannot misappropriate trade secrets?
Best thing OpenAI can do is sell itself to a buyer with money. Like Microsoft.
I hate when oligarchs can't get along.
Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI today, accusing the company of trade secret theft. Specifically, Apple alleges that its former employees have stolen trade secrets “for the benefit of OpenAI.” 9to5mac.com/2026/07/10/a...
Oh good. Start eating each other rather than us.
Let the rich people fight. They might be their own demise.
Bummer for them - maybe if Tim Cook had any scruples I would care.
Perhaps Tim Cook should have spent more focus on this than giving Trump gifts?
The business foundation of all the AI companies is theft.
Apple has sued OpenAI, accusing the company of using stolen trade secrets to develop its own yet-to-be-unveiled AI gadgets. https://cnn.it/4eXWUJO
Good. Let them eat each other. PS AI only exists because of the stolen work of others. Boo fvckong hoo Apple
The entire company is based off stealing data.
Company A Sue’s Company B who stole all their learning for their LLM
The obvious spyware was spying? Truly shocking.
Isn’t all AI stolen from someone/something?
OpenAI is one of the absolute most problematic companies of our time. The whole business model is based upon theft. Theft of intellectual property. Theft of concepts, art, music, etc. And the problem is: Once an idea goes into the matrix, provenance becomes very difficult. But you know its stolen.
As camadas de "ladrão que rouba ladrão" dessa situação Porém ninguém deve ser perdoado nesse caso
This is the OpenAI that Ive is at now, workin on uh AI gadgets?
this is quite the pickle. on the one hand its stolen IP but on the other hand it's for a worthless market segment that nobody wants
Apple is suing OpenAI for stealing trade secrets. Apple alleges that senior OpenAI executives, who are ex-Apple, ask job candidates to bring in Apple hardware components to their interviews and coach departing Apple employees on stealing information on their way out of the company.
"behind closed doors at OpenAI, where such misconduct is normalized and exemplified by leadership...As a natural result, OpenAI’s nascent hardware business now rests on the shakiest of foundations, rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets.” - Apple court filings
I thought theft was the the entire business model for AI?
